Sad, Quiet Anniversary at Dawson

There are no official events taking place at Dawson College tomorrow to mark the third anniversary of the shooting that took the life of first-year student Anastasia De Sousa. However, the gate at 4011 de Maisonneuve Blvd. W. will be open for people leaving flowers at the foot of the tree planted in De Sousa’s memory. I don’t have class on Fridays. My morning was meticulously assuring myself that I had nothing to do for the rest of the day.
I read while making lunch, a lunch that made itself while I read. The rest of the afternoon was spent admiring a word combination I found on page 55 of Don DeLillo’s White Noise.

I came to the realization last night that my least favourite vowel is ‘U’. It wasn’t a decision* or an observation** in any way, just a realization.

And but I find that I even dislike U words that are more sort of positive (e.g. ‘cute’***, ‘fruit’****, etc.), although I am partial to the word ‘dumb’.
